TACTICAL TWOVIEW IN DEPTH
In addition to the above, all Tactical TwoView models come equipped with a number of critical features to meet the demands of harsh environments, including:
FIELD-REPLACEABLE PARTS
All essential parts, including the display, computer, keyboard/trackball, and more, are replaceable in the field using common hand tools, minimizing any potential downtime of this mission-critical workstation.
USB-C
The latest USB standard, all Tactical TwoView models are equipped to run power, video, and data over a single USB-C cable. This reduces vulnerabilities and maintenance time if a cable needs to be replaced.
INTEGRATED COMPUTER DRAWER
The replaceable integrated computer provides the flexibility to install a computer module best suited to your mission requirements, and can run Windows, Linux, Remote-to-Server, and more.
REAR DISPLAY INPUT
In addition to displaying video feeds from the integrated computer, each display comes with a rear display port. When connected, this overrides the video feed from the internal computer, allowing you to bypass a failed computer or connect to an external one. Because the displays have their own video inputs, if an integrated computer isn’t necessary for your program requirements, it can be removed to make the workstation more cost-effective.
SUPERIOR USABILITY
All Tactical TwoView models feature large high-resolution monitors, waterproof and ergonomically designed keyboards, hinges that allow the user to adjust the displays in 10° increments to their preferred viewing angle and include a locking mechanism to withstand high-shock events, on-board computing power, and a number of adjustable options to optimize usability for your specific requirement.
The Tactical TwoView is available in three variants, which are specifically designed for unique applications.
TACTICAL TWOVIEW SHELTER
The Tactical TwoView Shelter is designed for mobile command shelters and mounts directly to a table, bench, desktop, or other fixed location. It is secured through an adaptable mounting pattern and also secures the keyboard/trackball stowed underneath. The dual displays fold and lock together securely during transportation of the shelter. The Tactical TwoView Shelter Variant can replace lower-grade monitors when conditions require MIL-STD certification.
TACTICAL TWOVIEW MOBILE
The Tactical TwoView Mobile is designed to be set up on any horizontal surface and operates as a standalone unit. This self-contained configuration folds into its own carrying case and includes a variety of features that make it ideal for mobile command tents and other portable applications that lack a hard-walled shelter, including:
- Rugged transit case that is IP65-rated against dust and water spray
- Hinged lid that allows the unit to store compactly inside the locked transit case
- Storage areas for headset, mouse, keyboard, cables, and other small peripherals to be stored in the transit case
TACTICAL TWOVIEW RACKMOUNT
The Tactical TwoView RackMount is General Digital’s first offering that fits into a 24” wide rack, serving as the perfect compliment to our existing rack mount systems that are designed for a standard 19” rack. The TTV RackMount fits in 5U of vertical rack space and features the same interface and computing power as the other two variants, making it ideal for lab-trainers, marine applications, and other environments that require a compact, rugged and rack-mounted solution.
DISPLAY BRIGHTNESS AND NIGHT VISION ENHANCEMENTS
General Digital can integrate virtually any LCD display size/resolution, from almost any panel manufacturer (OEM), into our enclosures. To assist in selecting the right panel for your application requirements, we have provided a list of commonly used or recommended panels for standard/low luminance, high brightness, sunlight readable and NVIS compatible needs.
New display models are constantly being introduced to the market by the LCD manufacturers, making it extremely difficult for us to maintain a comprehensive list. For this reason, we encourage you to speak with a Sales Engineer to share your price and performance objectives, so we can assist you in making the best display selection.
Standard Displays
General Digital has provided a sample listing of some common transmissive displays that are not sunlight readable. Typically, these displays are suitable for applications that are not going to require specialty functionality, such as sunlight readability or NVIS compatibility, and for customers with cost-sensitive budgets.
LCD backlight produces sufficient luminance for use in office, shaded and low ambient/darkness light levels. However, luminance is insufficient to overcome reflected light for use in direct sunlight.
Transmissive-Enhanced View Displays
This type of technology boosts the efficiency of the backlight’s light utilization and minimizes surface reflection of ambient light. It is a transmissive LCD module that produces high contrast images, even in bright outdoor light and direct sunlight. These displays feature a wider color reproduction range than reflective LCDs. Featuring an LED backlight, these displays consume very little power and produce very little heat, making them ideal for integration into fully sealed enclosures, which are devoid of ventilation holes and cooling fans to dissipate heat. They also provide the additional benefit of a wide operating/storage temperature (as great as -30°–85° C), so that they can endure exposure to greater internal ambient temperatures.
As a design note, we have found that these panels work best when coupled with an overlay that has an antireflective (AR) coating. Overlays that inhibit transmissivity (e.g., resistive touch screen) or have antiglare (AG) coatings will significantly reduce the panel’s performance in high ambient lighting conditions. Since transmissive displays produce greater brightness from their LED backlights than traditional transflective displays, they are regarded as a better outdoor solution, as they can generate high contrast in total darkness, in direct sunlight or on a cloudy/hazy afternoon.
T-EVT technology uses the high brightness/efficiency LED backlight as a light source while minimizing the surface reflection of ambient light. The result is an LCD that produces high contrast images even in bright outdoor light or direct sunlight.
GenFlective™/Transflective Displays
This type of panel incorporates a highly reflective backlight that reflects the ambient lighting back out of the display to enhance its native brightness produced by its active backlight. Like the Transmissive-Enhanced View Displays, GenFlective panels work best when coupled with an AR-coated overlay. They are least effective with overlays that retard the light transmission (e.g., resistive touch sensors) or have a matte finish.
T-EVT technology uses the high brightness/efficiency LED backlight as a light source while minimizing the surface reflection of ambient light. The result is an LCD that produces high contrast images even in bright outdoor light or direct sunlight.
Sunlight Readable/NVIS Compatible Displays
These displays feature a value-add backlight, typically made from high efficiency LEDs. These displays produce significant active luminance. Often, the peak luminance is limited by internal ambient temperature constraints or must be connected to an intelligent backlight controller and thermal sensor that will automatically reduce brightness/power to avoid over-temperature conditions or thermal shutdown. The high luminance output makes them ideal for use with a wide variety of overlays such as touch sensors, EMI filters, heaters, etc.
Sunlight readable displays use a General Digital-enhanced, highly efficient, super bright/sunlight readable LED backlight to provide maximum functional brightness. The addition of surface treatments such as antireflective coatings and optical bonding reduce surface reflections and increase contrast so displays can be used in direct sunlight.
If our stock offering does not suit your needs in terms of size, fit or function, please contact a Sales Engineer and we will work with you to configure a system to your specifications. Customers can also request that we integrate one of our many LED-based sunlight readable, NVIS or sunlight readable/NVIS enhanced displays into their product. These solutions provide many advantages, such as increased longevity, improved durability, higher brightness, lower power consumption and/or NVIS compatibility.

DISPLAYS
With what type of displays is the Tactical TwoView equipped?
The standard configuration of the Tactical TwoView provides two 21.5” displays with 1920 x 1080 resolution. The displays show 16.7 million colors and have a brightness of 300 nits. Other sizes from 15" to 24", are available. Please contact a Sales Engineer to learn more.
How are the displays protected/ruggedized?
The Tactical TwoView displays are protected by a customer-specified optically bonded overlay. This service is performed at our in-house optical labs in our East Hartford facility.
Does the Tactical TwoView have a dimmer switch to put the displays to sleep when in stowed position?
It certainly can! While this option is not included in the base configuration, it can be included with your system upon request.
Is the Tactical TwoView NVIS compatible?
It can be! While the base unit is not built to meet MIL-STD-3009, our engineers have designed NVIS compatible displays since the technology was first introduced and can confirm that this enhancement would take minimal effort.
Can I get a Tactical TwoView equipped with a touch screen?
Absolutely! Although the base model is not equipped with a touch screen, it can be. Contact a Sales Engineer to learn more about touch screen options for your TTV.
What if I have a suitable application but I need more than two displays?
You aren’t alone! We’ve received multiple inquiries for units with 3+ displays and our engineers are working on designing those solutions now. Contact a Sales Engineer to learn more about our progress and discuss your needs.
INPUT/OUTPUT
Can I connect the displays to an external input?
Yes. The rear connector panel of the Tactical TwoView has two DisplayPort inputs. When connected, these inputs can optionally override the video feed from the internal CPU.
What about other inputs?
The Tactical TwoView displays accept power, video, and data inputs over USB-C via the integrated CPU.
Why would I want my DisplayPort input to override the video feed on the internal computer?
In mission-critical environments, taking downtime to troubleshoot an issue or replace a computer might not be an option. In case of failure of the CPU or remote application, having the ability to override the CPU with an external input is a feature required by some of our defense partners, but can be removed at your request.
With how many USB ports is the Tactical TwoView equipped?
The Tactical TwoView features 4 easily accessible USB ports.
What type of Ethernet cord does the Tactical TwoView accept?
The standard Tactical TwoView accepts a copper Ethernet cord, but a fiber-copper converter can be included if necessary.
What power input does the Tactical TwoView accept?
The Tactical TwoView accepts 90–264 Vac as an input, and the current configuration has a max power draw of 100W. The 100W draw is based on the assumption that all USB ports are outputting their max current—which is not a typical use case—so the deployed power draw should be much lower.
Can the Tactical TwoView accommodate different power inputs?
Yes. While the standard input is 90–264 Vac, the unit can be modified to suit your power requirements.
CPU
What type of CPU does the Tactical TwoView have on board?
The Tactical TwoView currently has a zero client CPU specially designed to remote into a server with a minimum power draw. The zero client has 4 GB of RAM and a basic graphics processor as it is designed to mirror the characteristics of the host CPU. As with all GDC products, the modular design of the Tactical TwoView allows for a traditional CPU to be integrated, if necessary, into your application.
Where is the CPU housed?
The Tactical TwoView integrated computer is stored inside the body of the unit in a removable drawer, which maintains the access points to the external USB connectors.
ENCLOSURE
If I’m using my Tactical TwoView in a high-shock environment, do I need to worry about the top display folding down inadvertently?
You don’t! All Tactical TwoView variants come with top and bottom locking display hinges, allowing the user to adjust the displays to their preferred viewing angle.
Is the Mobile variant all one piece or does the workstation store inside the transit case?
Both! The sheet metal transit case for the Tactical TwoView Mobile variant is self-contained. The double-hinged lid prevents IP65 water/dust intrusion and provides physical protection to the displays while locked. It also folds sleekly out of the way during operation. The lid remains attached to the system at all times, therefore minimizing risk of loss or damage.
Can I improve the IP rating of the system?
Definitely. Currently, the only IP rating met by the TTV family is IP65-rated for the Mobile variant in stowed position. This is because sealing the system was an unnecessary expense for the base unit and our initial customers. However, we have the capability to seal the full system to meet IP65 in the deployed (open) position as well.
What color options are available for the enclosure?
The Tactical TwoView is available in stanard paint in any color. For CARC paint, MIL-certified options are limited to Green, Brown, Black, and Tan, although a certificate of conformity may be available for other colors.
KEYBOARD & PERIPHERALS
Do all variants of the Tactical TwoView include a keyboard?
All models are designed to accept a military-certified keyboard.
Does the keyboard have any slides?
Currently the keyboard does not have any slides. This provides the user freedom to position the keyboard to their preferred position, similar to a standard desktop keyboard. This includes the RackMount variant. The storage compartment is designed to be a form fit to the keyboard and is lined with foam padding to prevent jostling during transit.
What keyboard backlight options are available?
Standard keyboard backlighting options include Amber, Blue, Green, Red, White, and NVIS, as well as non-backlit. Custom backlighting is available on request.
Is there a place to store my computer peripherals?
Yes. In the Mobile variant, there is a storage compartment large enough for a headset, mouse, and other small peripherals. Both the Mobile and Shelter variants have integrated drawers to store the keyboard/trackball.
