    A Solid Foundation Upon Which to Build

    General Digital defines a Display Head Assembly (DHA) as a composite consisting of a flat screen display that has been selected specifically for the application requirements, and one or more of our value-add products and services.

    Display Head Assemblies are intended for customers who will provide some level of design integration on their own. Rather than purchase a turnkey monitor, they elect to procure a monitor subset featuring a flat panel display and one or more value-add products and/or services. The DHA readily allows customers to protect their proprietary technology, utilize their skill sets to their fullest economic and performance advantage, and specify only the products and services that we have mastered and uniquely provide.

    LCD Selection

    The DHA begins with selection of a flat panel display that best meets the electrical, optical, physical and environmental requirements of the application. Other factors include:

    • pricing
    • availability
    • length of product life cycle

    In the event that an off-the-shelf display does not meet all of the necessary requirements, we have the ability to enhance the standard performance with our value-add and integration services.

    Selection of the target core OEM display can be predetermined by the customer, or recommended by General Digital. We may suggest an “off-the-shelf” OEM panel, the enhancement of an OEM panel or a value-add panel that we have already engineered and tested (such as the LED-enhanced, sunlight readable and NVIS-compatible panels shown in our Enhanced Displays Line-Up Sheet).

    General Digital has the in-house capability to quantify any enhanced display’s performance optically (e.g., brightness, contrast, reflectivity, NVIS compatibility), thermally (e.g., temperature chamber), electrically and for emissions, as well as other mechanical or miscellaneous testing.

    After the display has been properly selected, General Digital can embellish the performance of the flat screen panel with a multitude of optical, electrical or mechanical overlays in the form of products and services, as shown in the graphics below.

    After the elements of the Display Overlay Assembly have been selected and completed, General Digital can further embellish the DHA by adding optional bezel enhancements, as shown in the graphic below.

    We at General Digital are completely responsible for the design and construction of our products, allowing us to maintain nearly total control of their future. To that end, we gladly offer our engineering services to customers who require special customization of our devices to meet their commercial, industrial, marine or military requirements.

    Our experience supporting Department of Defense programs has taught us the value of designing products with foresight so that they can be manufactured, serviced and upgraded for many years.

    Though the market introduces new innovations and product upgrades at an alarming rate, our product management team knows the importance of proactive customer notification. Thus, we can offer product adaptation with similar or equivalent performance before designs become obsolete, thereby extending the product life cycle.
